The gravity that brought us together sometimes sends us apart,
The resonance that keeps us in orbit often leaves us in chaos,
The world that shows me eternity always makes me long for more.

Before I considered the two main uses of an ellipsis (“…”), I thought that falling short and being left out were two different things. These are feelings of incompleteness, of unfulfillment. But the ellipsis is also a symbol of open-endedness.

This work accesses the infinity of possibilities stored in an ellipsis by treating the dots as physical objects. Evolving over time, each object follows a path informed by the gravitational pull of the others. Introducing a slight asymmetry in the initial trajectories leads to a binary orbit between two dots, leaving out a third. Meanwhile, the three fall short of a balanced, stable system.

Ellipsis is about recognizing that every moment is whole. It is knowing that I have everything, even when there are things I do not have. It is the realization that open-endedness is not incompleteness; a sentence with an ellipsis contains everything it needs. I am just beginning to learn how to feel fulfilled in a world of endless potential.
